Four Focus Areas

Academic Success

Students’ academic performance levels will increase (beyond grade level/ focused learning beyond grade level requirements but reflective of students ability to learn).  

 Objectives

  • students will increase their academic performance in all areas (enhance conceptual knowledge in all areas and apply in various circumstances)

  • students will learn to be career minded and planners

  • students will learn to develop an academic plan         

 Strategies

  • development of a year-long sequential integrated common core curriculum including STEM, the Arts, Culture

  • specialists to assist teachers in working towards common themes (technological, science, math, engineer, art, music, drama)

  • interactions with individuals/students/teachers around the country and world through technology

  • travel to various historic landmarks/monuments

  • use of an academic intervention program

  • parent workshops

  • teacher support (PD’s and teacher center)

  • language immersion 

Student Outcomes

  • student will show consistent academic growth from year to year while using technology to enhance that learning

  • development of academic and career plan  

  • completion of 10 volunteer hours each year

  • completion of academic portfolio

  • reflection pieces and  exit interviews upon moving forward to each grade

  1. STEM/Technology

Students will gain experiences that provide hands on learning which will enhance their interest and growth in the various STEM fields.    

Objectives

  • students will learn about and develop their understanding of the STEM fields 

  • students will learn to effectively use technology to conduct research and enhance their academic experience

  • envision the next wave of technology

Strategies 

  • use of STEM specialists to assist with developing the integrated curriculum and conducting teacher and family workshops

  • each student is provided with a laptop/tablet/iPad/iPhone 

  • each classroom is equipped with at least 2-4 desktop computers 

  • use of virtual classrooms and teachers

  • clubs (robotics, coding, web development)

Student Outcomes

  • demonstrate problem solving skills through project presentations 

  • extend their learning at home through iPad/laptop/gaming devices/iPhone/tablet

  • understand STEM career options and their necessity

  • understand the importance of being technically knowledgeable

  • show progression and inspire their peers

  1. Social Success

Students will develop the ability to embody a high level of self-confidence and strong social skills.

 Objectives

  • students will have the tools and strategies for positive social development

  • students will identify and understand their own inner strengths, social and academic

Strategies 

  • Seminars/assemblies – targeted lectures/presentations

  • boys and girls mentoring/advisory

  • yoga and meditation (centering self and handling stress)

  • health and wellness (gym, athletics, nutrition, counseling)

Student Outcomes

  • students will demonstrate positive communication skills, teamwork, camaraderie, leadership skills, vocabulary development and resiliency

    • students will create action plans to further develop their strengths

      Arts and Humanities

 Students will celebrate, learn and create a desire to be the next generation of their culture.  They will demonstrate success beyond them as individuals understanding their connection to a larger narrative.

Objectives

  • students will gain an understanding of the various cultures within their community

  • students will understand the challenges experienced by various cultures and how people were able to overcome the challenges 

  • students will learn about their own culture and make cultural connections with shared experiences

  • students will gain a sense of empowerment to help foster their development 

Strategies

  • assemblies highlighting various leaders (art, music, dance, social) and cultures

  • monthly leader studies integrated into the curriculum 

  • targeting arts, music and dance with the culture of focus

 

Student Outcomes

  • knowledge of community and global leaders

  • knowledge of their own and various cultures (art, music, dance, social)

  • students will feel confidant and empowered in moving towards their educational and career goals
